During the fall of 2024, chipelo embarked on his “college tour” in the dmv. It was inspired by dtlr’s college tour and chris hypnotyc’s “energia” tour of local high schools. chipelo was getting ready to graduate from university, and in his last year, he wanted to take full advantage of being there. reaching out to all the latin organizations of many universities in the dmv area and using his greek life connections, he set up his own tour to perform and gain recognition in the first-generation latin student sphere. consisting of a total of 7 universities, 2 festivals, and 1 high school from september to october, chipelo’s “college tour” was a strategic business and marketing tactic.
It also allowed him to connect with students who resonated with his story—first-generation Latinos navigating the balance between tradition, ambition, and self-discovery. Performing at events hosted by Latin American Student Organizations, fraternities/sororities, and cultural festivals, Chipelo brought high-energy performances and intimate storytelling to crowds eager to see representation in the music industry and an underdog to root for.
Beyond just performing, the tour was an opportunity to test his music in real-time, observing what songs made people dance, what lyrics hit hardest, and how his presence impacted different audiences. From packed auditoriums to smaller, tight-knit gatherings, Chipelo adapted to every setting, leaving a lasting impression wherever he went. By the end of the tour in december, Chipelo and his crew had not only expanded his fan base but also built strong relationships with students and organizers alike, proving that independent artists can create their own opportunities with the right strategy, persistence, and connection to their audience.

george washington university was not initially on the tour list until it was added a bit before the actual show date. taking place at gw’s Organization of Latin American Students annual “fiestasa” event, this one took place at ultrabar, where dj reckless was spinning for the private event, reminiscent of when chipelo first met the dj at his cinco de mayo performance at ultrabar as well earlier in the year. chipelo had recently debuted a new reggaeton single “EN LA DISCO” along with close friend kelli alva, so she accompanied him to perform it for an excited crowd.
